For freelancers and business owners applying for Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), company records may help document self-employment when the relevant Workcation checklist asks for them. A U.S. LLC can provide part of a genuine business’s records; the exact documents depend on where you apply.
Can a business support a Destination Thailand Visa application?
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) includes a Workcation category for digital nomads, remote workers, foreign talent and freelancers. The exact documents depend on the Thai embassy or consulate handling the application.
For example, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Los Angeles lists an employment contract, employment certificate or professional portfolio as evidence of workcation activity. For self-employed applicants, it also lists a business license or business registration showing the applicant’s name. The Royal Thai Embassy in Budapest lists a cover letter, certificate of incorporation and corporate tax return for business owners.
These examples show that business registration records can support evidence of business activity when the checklist for your application asks for them. Prepare them alongside evidence of actual activity, income and any other documents requested by the office handling your case.
Check the rules for the specific visa category and any work restrictions with the Thai authorities, especially if your plans include working for Thai companies or serving local clients.
Other visa categories have different requirements
The two-year Smart “S” category is for entrepreneurs with technology startups established in Thailand and certified in targeted industries. Its published criteria include owning at least 25% of the Thai company or serving as its director, holding a deposit of at least THB 600,000 for three months, and having health insurance. A Wyoming LLC does not replace that Thai company or meet those criteria on its own.
Thailand’s LTR Work-from-Thailand Professional category is designed for remote employees of overseas companies that meet specific size, operating history and revenue criteria, along with personal requirements. Owning a small LLC is not automatically the same as having the employment or qualifying employer required by that category.
Where a U.S. LLC may fit
If you already operate a business, company and financial records can help explain your work when an application asks for self-employment evidence. The LLC is one part of the file, alongside proof of activity, income and the other documents on the applicable checklist.
Before preparing company documents for an application, confirm with the embassy or consulate that will handle your case which category fits, what evidence it accepts and what work restrictions apply. Checklists can differ by jurisdiction and change over time.
